A Letter from Arts & Events ManagerTo the UCSF Community, For over 45 years, Campus Life Services, Arts & Events has operated the campus movie theater, Cole Hall Cinema. We are very proud of the service we provided for the campus. The cinema has had a long history of offering affordable films, from box office blockbusters to low-budget art house movies and everything in between, to thousands of UCSF students, faculty, staff, and the community. As you know, financial challenges are impacting most business these days. Unfortunately, we have seen a steady decline in attendance and an increase in overall expenses over the last five years for Cole Hall Cinema. We have been forced to take a look at our budget and make difficult decisions about program reductions. As a result, we have come to the decision to close Cole Hall Cinema. At Arts & Events, we are committed to providing an array of arts and social recognition and celebration programs at UCSF. However, to sustain this commitment, we must redirect our valuable, but limited resources. The cinema will not disapear completely from the UCSF landscape; we plan to offer periodic outdoor movies at Mission Bay in the near future. Keep your eyes open for future announcements. Plus, we will continue to provide discounted movie tickets for sale to AMC, Century and United Artists theathers. We extend our sincerest thanks to all of you who have supported Cole Hall Cinema throughout its long run. Without this support, the cinema could not have sustained its rich, colorful history on the UCSF campus. If you have any questions about Arts & Events programs, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely,
Jennifer Mannix Arts & Events Manager 415.476.6167 Jennifer.Mannix@ucsf.edu
