Gita Jayewardene, MA Ed.

Hello, my name is Gitanjali. But I am "Gita" to all the kids, the parents and my coworkers. I started working as a volunteer at the Lucia center in 1990 when I came to San Francisco from Sri Lanka. Later I became a substitute teacher, an assistant teacher and then a teacher at the center. At present I am a teacher as well as the supervisor for the younger unit at the Lucia center.

I have a BA in Child and Adolescent Development concentrating in the Young Child. I also have a Masters Degree in Elementary Education concentrating in Early Childhood Education, from the State University of San Francisco. I love children and also enjoy working with their families to provide the best possible care they need and deserve.

My hobbies are baking and decorating cakes, gardening, arts and crafts, sketching, reading and taking care of my pets—two dogs, a cat, fish and a bird.
