Group 3a If you are a UCSF affiliate (Non-Staff) and you wish to transfer to another unit for the 2009 - 2010 term, you should elect to be in Group 3a. Only UCSF affiliates are eligible to be a part of Group 3a. If you are an affiliate with UC Hastings, the California College of the Arts (CCA), Golden Gate University (GGU), or the San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) and you wish to transfer units, you should elect to be in Group 3b. IMPORTANT NOTICE TO UCSF STAFF MEMBERS: The Housing Services staff program ends on July 1, 2009. If you are under a staff contract, you are not eligible to renew your housing for the 2009 - 2010 term. If you have questions about your contract terms or housing situation, please contact your Housing Services office. If you are eligible to be a part of Group 3a and wish to be considered a member of this group, you must return the Group 3a Housing Intent Form to Housing Services by Friday, February 27th. Tenants who return their Housing Intent Form on time will be assigned a lottery number on March 16th, 2009. Lottery numbers are assigned randomly and determine the order in which Housing Services contacts tenants to schedule an appointment with an Assignments Coordinator. They do not necessarily determine the order in which tenants select their new unit. Lottery priority for two-bedroom apartments at Aldea San Miguel housing will be given to families with children. If you select to be in this group, be sure to indicate whether you are more interested in the Parnassus campus or the Mission Bay campus. This will determine which Assignments Coordinator contacts you about available units. Between March 17th and March 20th the Housing Services office will contact each Group 3a tenant by phone and offer him or her an appointment with an Assignments Coordinator. This appointment will occur sometime between March 23rd and April 17th. During this meeting the Assignments Coordinator and tenant will discuss which units are available. If the tenant finds a unit he or she likes, the Assignments Coordinator will record the tenant's choice. The Assignments Coordinator will send a contract to the tenant sometime between May 4th and May 8th. This contract will be due back to the Housing Services office on May 15th. If the contract is not returned by the due date, the tenant forfeits the apartment and must vacate on July 1, 2009. Because of high occupancy rates, tenants will not be able to see units in advance. However, whenever possible, floor plans and descriptions of units will be available. Please note that only UCSF students and post docs are eligible to live on the Parnassus campus. Additionally, single students and single post docs may not move into Aldea San Miguel apartments and any single students and single post docs currently staying in Aldea San Miguel are not eligible to transfer to a different apartment within that complex. Tenants transferring from one apartment to another are not required to submit an initial rent payment! All contracts will begin on July 1st, 2009 and expire on July 1st, 2010. Because all contracts end on July 1st, tenants transferring into new apartments may not be able to move into their new space until after the unit has been cleaned and prepared for a new occupant. In these situations, the tenant will stay in his or her current assignment and pay the 2009 - 2010 rental rate for that unit until the new unit is ready. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Group 3a tenants who transfer to a new apartment will, in most instances, be able to move into their new unit after 5pm on a Friday in July or August. Tenants will take the weekend to move and return their old keys by 9am on the following Monday. PLEASE NOTE THAT TRANSFERING TENANTS WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PRO-RATED RENT ON BOTH UNITS DURING THE WEEKEND MOVE. In other words, tenants will be rent responsible for the unit they are moving in to and the unit they are moving out from for the entire weekend (Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday night). Tenants in Group 3a who sign new contracts may cancel their 2009 - 2010 contract for any reason before June 1st. Tenants must submit a written request to Housing Services before June 1st in order to be released from their contracts. Pharmacy 2 students: Pharmacy students entering rotations beginning Spring Quarter of the 2009 - 2010 academic year will know their rotation assignment by March 31st, 2009. Please carefully consider the location of your rotations before committing to live in campus housing for the 2009 - 2010 year. Contracts will not be cancelled after June 1st, 2009. Students living in campus housing who are assigned to rotations outside of San Francisco beginning Spring Quarter 2010 are rent responsible for the duration of the contract through June 30, 2010; contracts will not be terminated due to the location of rotations. If you are unable to make your appointment, you may appoint a proxy by submitting a letter to the Housing Services office at least 24 hours before your appointment. The letter must be signed by you and must clearly designate who will be acting as your proxy. You can drop the letter off at the Housing Services office or fax it to the appropriate office. Fax numbers can be found on the Group 3a Housing Intent Form. Please think carefully before selecting to be in Group 3a. By selecting Group 3a, you are giving up your current unit. If you are unable to find a unit to your liking, you will not be able to renew your contract in your current unit if another tenant has selected it.
