Great People, Great Place Initiative

In March 2016, more than 30 stakeholders across UCSF gathered at a planning retreat aimed at making UCSF a best place to work, learn, teach and discover.

Out of that retreat emerged a concept to develop and implement an action plan that was later named the Great People, Great Place initiative.

Championed by Dan Lowenstein, MD, executive vice chancellor and provost, with support of the UCSF leadership team, this effort is guided by a 25-person committee made up of faculty, staff and student representatives from across UCSF, and is administered by the Office of Wellbeing in Campus Life Services.

The first year of the Great People, Great Place initiative is focused on improving the UCSF culture in three priority areas:

• Adopting a common set of values, known as PRIDE Values;
• Expanding opportunities for recognition to acknowledge good work; and
• Improving internal communications to and with members of the UCSF community.
